Bumble Bee
2022
wool, silk. paper thread, wire
11 x 16 x 7"
The bee is delicately created with golden colors. The iridescence of the eye is conveyed with contrasting blue fiber. I never knew, until I made this, about the thousands of hairs that cover a bee and I delighted in capturing this using a uniquely stiff paper thread.
This piece is my love letter to bees - how intrinsic they are to the health of our ecology. Like the other animal pieces, we question whether it is alive or dead, just as we understand that the bee's future or extinction is also in question. That decision - the life/death of the bee - is left to the viewer to make.
